The
barn featured in this painting is located off Otterdale Road
in Chesterfield County, Virginia.
The barn sits near an old home and is in a state of
disrepair. In
fact, there isn’t even a road leading to the barn. In order to give it more interest, I added several details to
the area and came up with the finished product. |

I attend a field trip with my youngest
son to Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens and took the photograph
on which this painting is based.
I was standing on the opposite shore of the lake there
when I took this photo. I liked the way the cool darkness of the foreground contrast
with the brilliant sunlit space around the bank of the lake
near the gazebo. I
particularly like the way the rocks reflected off the pond in
front of the gazebo.

On the same
weekend trip to Virginia Beach, Virginia, I took the
photograph of the New Cape Henry Light from the base of the
Old Cape Henry Light. If
you note the shrub in the foreground leaning in towards the
New Cape Henry Light you will see the same shrub in Old
Cape Henry Light also in the foreground.
Amazingly there is only a distance of 350 feet between
the old and new lights.
